Today, I was walking in Long Island City and came across this beautiful street art mural found on the wall of the Rockaway Brewing Company!  Take a look at the video after the break.

Here’s the video — sorry for the little jerkiness in the movement as I was walking — I was bumping into trees planted in the sidewalk behind me.  It’s fun how all the mural images run together into each other to tell a text story in viewing.

I also learned it’s hard to walk a straight line in front of you while aiming an iPhone 5S camera to the side of you.

    1. Making videos is fun! I almost bumped into a guy while walking the movie. We avoided each other right at the last second and he was nice enough to bounce by behind me to get by.

  3. I have always found natural light to be the best – but it is not always available. Subway lights like street lights and indoor lighting come in different colors and the real pros can spot what they are and compensate accordingly. I have very little video shooting eperience I can only imagine that would make things even more complicated .

    1. I’m the same way. The subway video is a little dark and blurry. Somewhat chalky. If I turned on the light on my iPhone that might have helped a little.

        The sun was behind her, and so Sweetleaf was in shadow. The reflected cars in the street have more illumination and definition than the storefront.

        But, what can one do when the sun is high in the sky and you can’t move the subject? You do just as Janna did — nothing, except take a photo with great composure — and an iPhone light would not have made a difference in that situation. Sometimes shadows can be fixed in editing. Sometimes the shadows just work — even with the sun flare! SMILE!

  4. I think that is a great shot – the vehicle reflections give added definition to the piece – they make it much more “real”.

    1. Yes! That’s a good way to put it. The reflected cars create depth of field beyond the shadows.
