If you only need one reason to beat off instead of 21 then stop reading. If, however, like me, you appreciate all medical research to help rationalize the joy of release, keep reading.

I couldn’t decide if I should title this entry 21 Reasons to Beat Off or Tips for Good Prostate Health but the fact you’re still with me suggests I made the right choice.

Perhaps I am suffering a post-traumatic-Tommy-Lee-stress-disorder hangover from yesterday. In the April 7, 2004 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association a study of 30,000 men in middle-age was published and it was discovered those who ejaculated 21 times or more a month had a 33% lower risk of prostate cancer than those who only ejaculated four to seven times a month. If you are behind the ejaculation curve there is still hope for you. Men who increased ejaculations by three per week over a lifetime had a 15% reduction in the risk of getting prostate cancer.

I have no idea if increasing your weekly output to nine times a week would make up for lost time or not, but what could hurt in trying?

There is a new battle cry across the world of the married man who can now, in good conscience, and with solid science behind him, go to his wife every day without flowers in hand, or candles dancing in the dark, or any kind of hint of a faked romantic intent, and say, “Honey, it’s time to prevent a little cancer.” Here is a link to the original study. Here is a link to a plain English WebMD article about the study.

  1. Oh great, David, now you’ve got the guys bending down to kiss your feet in gratitude, but the women are ready to smack you upside your head!

  2. Oh my God! This is great. I will have to put this along side the medical study that says looking at women’s breast for at least ten minutes a day will help you live longer.
I’ll tell my wife, “I just wanted to live longer…for you!!!!”
I guess I’ll have some catchin’ up to do when I get home.
    Kev

  3. Carla — I’ll ask my wife as soon as she stops laughing at me. 🙂
Kev — We are with you in your effort to catch up! I also remember a couple of other studies from the recent past. One claimed a man’s ejaculate had a clinically “calming” effect for a woman as it sat pooling in her vagina: A natural “Prozac” with a never-ending supply! Another study claimed a man’s armpit odor unconsciously “soothed” women. I’m waiting for the medical study that claims a man’s stinky feet make women feel smarter! 🙂 Why do I have a feeling most of these studies are instigated by men?

  4. And there I was thinking that over the years I was doing horrible things like adding to deforestation with all the tissues.
Ha, now I realize that it was all for health. Thanks David! I can feel the Catholic shame thrown down on me as a child lessening as I write this.
    Insightful as always.

  5. Carla — I am also convinced the “patch” that helps make a post-menopausal woman horny is actually modern day “Spanish Fly” that will be used on all women soon and it had to be a man who headed up that effort, too! 🙂
Eban — We are happy to help you in any way we can! Well… any way but one. 🙂

  6. Boy, talk about veering off the straight and narrow path :/ I can see this excuse flying all over the world now. “I’m trying to prolong my life for you” As if that is going to get you somewhere lol

  7. LOL! This is hilarious.
My two cents for this post. The Framingham Study, probably the best and also best known long term study of cardiovascular disease in a population revealed this interesting finding.
Single men die sooner than married men, all other variables the same.
Married women die sonner than single women, all other variables the same.
Which leads to the inescapable conclusion that being a man, or being with a man is lethal!

  8. Master Foley —
Your warning may be right on target!
That’s why I suggest men print out the articles I mention, hand them to their women, and then run for their lives! 🙂

  9. Meta Blogging : Five Interesting Places

While surfing around for inspiration – which I do mostly on other blogs – I am more often than not tempted to post on those blogs, in context, rather than steal an idea and rehash it here. So, rather than write a post of my thoughts today, I thought …

  10. What is the link for The Framingham Study?? I would like to read the data but searching online is not help.
