Every opportunity we have — and an opportunity is where luck and preparation meet — is like being given a length of rope.
We can either build a ladder or tie a noose.
I am always surprised how many people tie nooses instead of building another step up on the ladder of success.
The choice, after all, isn’t in within the rope.
The choice is in your hands.

  1. Hi Jeff — Yes, you may jump rope with it or you could even tie up little kids on their way to school and take their lunch money! 😉
Hey Robin — Thanks! Nice to see you today! 🙂

  2. I get the feeling that there’s a specific instance or instances that prompted this post. Any chance in elaborating? 🙂

  3. Hi Carla!
I don’t think there’s any particular instance I’m recalling except that as the Fall semester begins for many students I know some are already behind a lot after only a week and a course that can be a great gateway into something spectacular can quickly feel like it is killing you.
University classes are one sort of a “Rope as an Opportunity” but there are many others. I didn’t want to tie down the metaphor too much with personal definition this time. 🙂
