A WalMart worker was stomped to death yesterday in the opening of a Valley Stream store on Black Friday.

Jdimytai Damour of Jamaica, Queens,
was pushed to the ground by the 2,000-plus crowd just before 5 a.m. as
management was preparing to open the store, which is located across
from the main Green Acres Mall building. Hundreds stepped over, around
and on the 34-year-old worker as they rushed into the store.

“This crowd was out of control,” said Nassau Police Det. Lt. Michael Fleming, whose squad is investigating.

“Nobody was trying to help him,” said shopper Nakea Augustine,
who was in the line. “They were rushing in the store, rushing, rushing,
rushing.”

With the USA economy in ruins — to what are people rushing to
purchase?  An undying yearning for an HDTV?  A new must-have toy for
their child that every other parent has already purchased?  Is the
price of the advertising-inspired meme worth the cost of the death?

  1. I wonder if people think that shopping on this day will save the economy? It’s never worth the cost of a life, of course!

  2. Black Friday was up 3% from last year, Gordon, so I think there’s some hope that people might be willing to spend some money. I guess the biggest indicator of consumer willingness to spend again in quantified in the purchase of big HDTVs.
