by We know New Orleans still needs all the help we can offer. Despite this, celebrities are still coming up with new and improved ways to try to help out the devastated nation of Haiti. Wyclef Jean, for example, recently appealed to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to adopt a baby from Haiti.
I may be a pessimist, but I don’t see how this is really going to help. One baby. Exactly one baby from a country that certainly has thousands upon thousands of babies that are in need of help. Is it possible that the idea is that when news of the adoption hits, people will rush to their computer to donate money to the causes?
If this is the case, then where is the evidence that Madonna’s adoption of a baby from Malawi has caused any sort of increase of donations to the impoverished nation? From any of Angelina Jolie’s previous adoptions of babies from impoverished nations around the world, have we seen any sort of improvement in the lives of the people of those nations?
If you really want to help Haiti, there are numerous ways that you can legitimately help but adopting one baby is not the way to go.
I wonder how many Haitian orphans Wycelf adopted?
Why bother the Pitts with this sort of request?
It’s strange.
I imagine the thought process went somewhat like this :
I wonder who could adopt a child that is also really rich and famous. Hmm. Rich, famous, adopt a child. I know… Brad Pitt! He has already adopted a few children. Why not add one more?
I think Wyclef has a lot more money and resources than the Pitts, though, especially in Haiti!
