Rex Ryan is Finished as Coach of the New York Jets

Rex Ryan is the boisterous, flabby, manchild coach of the New York Jets football team, and he’s in trouble.  He isn’t in trouble for being loud-mouthed or a terrible coach — he’s clearly both of those things — rather, Rex is in trouble for prevaricating in public about the very public foot fetish he and his wife have shared on the internet.  You can have a buffoon for a head coach, but you can’t have a foot fetishist calling the plays from the sideline because everyone in the stadium will wonder if Rex Ryan smelled his wife’s feet before the game or not — and that kind of laughing condescension is bad for morale on a delicate, high-strung, team.

Deadspin.com broke the news about the Ryans’ sexual delights.  Michelle, Rex’s wife, is an alleged “model” and quite clearly a maker of foot fetish videos.  The fetish video on Deadspin site undeniably stars Michelle and Rex is behind the camera — interacting with her in his unmistakable Hicktown-Aw-Shucks-Dumb-As-A-Box-Of-Jockstraps voice as he touches her feet and actually smells her toes on camera.

The fact that Rex wont’ deny he and his wife star in the videos is bright line evidence it really is them in the videos, because otherwise they would both outright denounce the videos and decry their crucifixion in the media:

In a conference call with Chicago reporters and at his news conference later Wednesday leading up to Sunday’s big game with the Bears, Ryan didn’t deny a Deadspin.com report that shows a number of videos of a woman who looks very much like his wife showing off her feet while a cameraman — who sounds like Ryan — talks to the woman.

“To be honest, and I get it, I know you need to ask and all that stuff,” Ryan told reporters when asked if the situation could snowball into a distraction. “But it’s a personal matter and I’m really not going to discuss it, OK?”

Ryan said it was between him and his wife and he would not elaborate beyond that.

Rex is a grown man, and he can make smelly foot videos starring his wife if he wishes — but he’s also the face of an expensive football franchise — and he’s going to have a hard time ever putting his wife’s feet to rest. Rex will never live down being a laughingstock. He’s done.

The NFL and the Jets don’t need another sex scandal, and with public reaction clearly on the side of the Ryans being the star of their public sexual exhibitionism, there will be tremendous pressure on the Jets to take some sort of action to remove the center of their firestorm so some semblance of peace and tranquility — and not the ongoing circus of fetishized eroticism — can return to the team.

Rex Ryan is over and done as the Jets head coach and he brought about his own demise in the plethora of bad decisions he’s made as a coach and as a husband — and the Jets now must be finished paying the price for his expensive, public, sins.  The time to move onward and upward is nigh and, perhaps without Rex Ryan weighing the down, the Jets can finally start soaring again.

The honorable thing for Rex Ryan to do is to resign — but I don’t think he has the gut for it — and that’s precisely why he must go, right now.
