Bush is back in our nightmares with the opening of his massive Presidential “library” on the campus of Southern Methodist University — all built not to remind us of what a killer he was in the world, but rather what a great a guy he was as he meandered the halls of the White House choking on pretzels while Dick Cheney did all the dirty work as President-in-situ.

There should be no doubt that the situation in Syria is beyond dreadful. The country is torn apart by an escalating civil war in which chemical weapons have been used on an innocent populace. It has yet to be established which of the warring factions employed these weapons – it is presumed by many that it was government forces.
There is no doubt that they were used. So who sold them? Why are chemical weapons allowed to be manufactured and sold – especially to unstable countries? When you sell a cooker – you know its going to be used for cooking – when you sell a boat you know it is going to be used for sailing – when you sell a chemical weapon you now it is going to be used to attack, kill, maim and poison people.
It will not help those people who died in Syria last week – but I propose the United Nations grow a set of B*LLS and ban the manufacture and sale of Chemical weapons and their constituent parts.
The British people spoke loud and clear last week when the government motion to join with the USA in attacking Syria was defeated in the House of Commons.

As you are well aware, I am not at all a fan of backseat parenting — I don’t see parents doing something with which I disagree and rush right over to tell them all about the error of their ways. There are limits to this, of course, and lines in parenting that cannot and should not ever be crossed — that line was crossed by a couple in Arizona who posted photos of their children tied up with Duct tape, mouths taped shut, and hung upside down.
When I was visiting Israel in 1998, my cousin told me that his friends who had been in the military — meaning all of them (The Israeli military requires men and women at the age of 18 to serve for up to three years) had varying levels of success in finding work but there was one common thread — the higher their rank, the better they did in terms of getting jobs that paid more. I found this to be a commendable thing but at the time I thought that this was fairly commonplace.

War is pretty nasty and we’ve had most of the gory details from Iraq and Afghanistan hidden from us — but, ever so slowly — the ugly truths are starting to be revealed, and the AP ran a story yesterday about American troops getting their genitalia blown off.
