Obama slaughtered Hillary last night in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Barack didn’t just beat her. He whupped her good. Is Obama rising? Or is he only cresting until Hillary can smash him again in Texas and Ohio?

Now that Obama has won 23 of 34 states — does that make him the front runner or not?

Or does Hillary still have a few knives up her sleeve to slash her way through the Obama wave?

Hillary is still swooning from Bill’s lackluster performance
in South Carolina.
As a Senator, Hillary stood on her own and won her way.
As a presidential candidate, we are forced to deal with “The Clintons”
— Hillary and Bill and Chelsea — and Hillary loses her greatest asset
in that exchange: Her lone wolf strength.

Hillary is always best when
she’s blazing a path or fighting back from being cornered.
Today, she’s at sea and lost awash in a tide she did not predict or
comprehend. There’s no way to swim to shore. She’s drowning in the
midst of the rising tide of Obama’s mist.

The
Superdelegates are becoming more and more irrelevant with Obama’s rise:
No one will dare deny him the nomination if he continues to win the
popular vote and the general delegate count.

The democrats cannot risk a repeat of Bush’s goring of Gore in 2000 — so they need to start peeling away from Hillary — with Nancy Pelosi leading the way
— and provide the structural and institutional power to back Barack
and give him the cornerstone he needs to leap over the next treacherous
steps to the nomination.

We are on the cusp of history. We must not vanquish the opportunity before its predestined success.

  1. I’m actually a little worried about Texas and Ohio. I really hope Senator Obama takes at least one of those states if not both. That, I think, would really solidify Obama’s chances. 🙂 We can do it!

I do fear a blasting is on its way from the Clinton camp. Can Obama take the tremors? All he needs to do is ask her why she refuses to release her tax returns. That will cut her off.

Yes, Texas and Ohio are paramount to Obama winning early and getting on with the nomination.
Unlike California, he has more time on his side. He opened campaign offices in Dallas, San Antonio and Houston a week before she did, so that’s excellent news.
I question the California “win.” 2 million absentee ballots submitted a month before the voting? That smells in a bad way. It’s pretty easy to manipulate that vote in poor areas where people are willing to do whatever it takes to earn a few dollars or an ounce of respect.

  4. I do not know enough about the intricacies of the political system in the USA – what I can see is that *normal* America has hope again – hope in a man who may just offer the USA a change of course that many think it needs.
I agree that Hilary bringing *hubby out of the closet* is the worst strategy she can follow – it smacks of desperation .

    Nicola —
It’s interesting that Obama poetically speaks of big ideas and people know specifically what he means even if they cannot express what he means in specific words and that drives The Clintons crazy! They want him to be wonky and numbers-centric like Hillary. But he is not. He’s new. He’s different. He knows how to speak to the best of us.
Someone on TV said this morning that Hillary is running as a “smarter, more competent Bush” and the commentator went on to say, “we don’t want that!” We’re done with Bush. We want something altogether new. That’s precisely the core of it. Obama wants to take us in a new way — Hillary wants the status quo but with her in the center.
It was a terrible decision to pull Bill out of mothballs. He almost seems out of it — senile in some sense where he lives in the past and uses the language of yesterday, and it all comes off as tired and boring.

  6. I think bringing him out of mothballs has had a detrimental effect on both of them. She has lost her lone Shewolf edge and he has lost the respect of people who thought he had retired graciously.

    David W. Boles says:

That’s it, Nicola. They tempted the historic love and respect for Bill in the community by pushing in forward on us again and it didn’t play well. He should’ve stayed home and let her fight her own fight. If he stayed out of the fray in public he could’ve served her so much better in private. I also fear embedding Chelsea into the mix didn’t work out for them, either.

Yes, that “firing” was big news, though the Clintons tried to downplay its importance.
The NYTimes says today the Clintons are getting ready to burn down the party to win:

With every delegate precious, Mrs. Clinton’s advisers also made it clear that they were prepared to take a number of potentially incendiary steps to build up Mrs. Clinton’s count. Top among these, her aides said, is pressing for Democrats to seat the disputed delegations from Florida and Michigan, who held their primaries in January in defiance of Democratic Party rules.
