Have we ever had an ex vice-president so quickly and publicly condemn the current administration as Dick Cheney has done to the Obama administration? The man has been out of office less than three week’s and he can’t wait to taste the bitterness of American blood again.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney warned that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed.
In an interview Tuesday with Politico, Cheney unyieldingly defended the Bush administration’s support for the Guantanamo Bay prison and coercive interrogation of terrorism suspects.
And he asserted that President Obama will either backtrack on his stated intentions to end those policies or put the country at risk in ways more severe than most Americans–and, he charged, many members of Obama’s own team — understand.
“When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry,” Cheney said.
Cheney is not only the measure of humiliating and hubristic bad taste, he’s damaging the human
condition by wanting — nay, yearning for — another terrorist attack
on American soil to excuse his cruel and unusual treatment of the Gitmo detainees and the good citizens of these United States.
It seems Dick Cheney won’t be satisfied, or redeemed, until the entirety of the nation is one big, terrorist cell in need of constant and continued incarceration — and we’ll all be worse for the wearing of our fear on the sleeve of our national policy.
no doubt he has to pray for another attack or his legacy is ruined. strange that. he needs americans hurt to feel better.
It is one strange disconnect, Anne. To wish for the worst — while pretending to protect the public interest — is a horrible legacy to leave behind.
No man deserves the word disingenuous more than this one. Seriously. What is wrong with him?
Right on, Gordon! He’s obviously sick and obsessed — and the second anything negative happens to us… he and the rest of the Republican cabal will rejoice over the deaths and dance on the graves of the dead as proof they were right all along about torture and the flaying of our personal privacy.
The only way to stop them is for Obama to take the hard lead after the tragic event and and say, “It is un-American to celebrate in the midst of national despair.” I doubt though, after this week, that Obama is that politically savvy enough to chop them off.
