One of the risks Barack Obama takes in the infancy of his presidency is in keeping bad Bush administration policies in place for too long without taking proactive measures to dismantle the horrors.  The wages of that waiting is that some of the blame will rub off on Obama and new bloodshed will belong solely on his hands.

Guantanamo celebrated one of those horrors this week with the fifth suicide of a prisoner since the incarceration island was put in place during 2000 — Barack’s hands are bleeding.

A man from Yemen held at the US-run prison in Guantanamo for more than seven years without charge was found dead in an apparent suicide, the US military said.

The 31-year-old inmate was identified as Muhammad Ahmad Abdallah Salih, also known as Al-Hanashi. He had been held at Guantanamo since February 2002, US Southern Command said in a statement.

With this new suicide, Guantanamo is now wholly owned by Obama — and he’d better run or cut bait — because his waiting game against American torture is an utter failure, and if he plans to operate Guantanamo as Bush and Cheney did before him, he owes it to the rest of us to confess his ills and to officially express his wanton disregard for the will of the people.

Some bloodstains can never be washed away.

I thought Guantanamo should have been closed by now?

  2. I am surprised that Obama hasn’t already dismantled Guantanamo! It’s representation is far different from Obama’s very diplomatic character. It sends out the wrong message about our newly elected president! If he doesn’t take action soon I am sure that he will be dealing with the repercussions for many years to come.

I agree, Kimberley! He really blew it. Now he has a suicide put directly on his watch. He’s already waited too long.

    Gordon!
We thought so, too! I don’t think Obama will close it any time soon.
