Chasing a Receding Horizon

It is human nature to press ahead and chase what we can never catch.  For all of human existence we have been obsessed with the horizon and what riches and wonders wait for us just beyond the ken of its bend.

Why do we chase what we can never own?

It that human need to capture the immortal what keeps our hope and yearning alive?

As we approach the horizon, it eternally recedes from our grasp, creating the ultimate tease and our evergreen conundrum of living:  When do we stop racing forward and stop to enjoy what we have surrounding us in the now?

If we can never own the horizon — are we ever able to set our sight beyond the mark where the land meets the sky?

Or are we always condemned to wish and to wonder what joys are bound for us just beyond the horizon?
