Truth in the Tar Pit: Not Everyone has the Right to Express an Opinion

In America, we tend to use “Freedom as Speech” as a cudgel to allow hate speech in the public square and to encourage “Stupid Speech” via the quaint notion that, “Everyone has a right to express their opinion.”  I argue today there are some people who have no right to a private opinion, let alone the right to be heard expressing that opinion.

Misinterpretation in Adaptation: Eminem Messes Up Love the Way You Lie

Adaptation is difficult to get right.  You must honor the original intent of the underlying work while enhancing that work in a new retelling.  Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” is a perfect example of how two adaptations of the song have failed miserably as music videos.  The first culprit is an amateur YouTube video with 2.8 million viewings so far — and the second absconder is: Eminem himself.

Lindsay Lohan Lies About Saving Lives

It’s bad enough we have to deal with the celebrity infantilization of cancer — now we get to deal with celebrities that don’t actually do the heroic acts that they say that they do? We understand that celebrities are often actors and actresses that get paid to pretend that they are something they are not but this pretending should not extend into their real lives as human beings, interacting with us and society as a whole.
