We need to have a serious conversation, Trader Joe’s. You know well that my family comes to visit you, on average, about once a week and sometimes more when the weather is nice and we want to take a walk in your direction. You may recall that a number of months ago, you decided to slowly replace your soy chicken-less chicken nuggets with something called chicken-less breaded tenders. At first you had both products at once, but then over time you stopped stocking the nuggets. This has had a negative impact on my family.

Recovering from Hurricane Sandy in Jersey City

Monday night, at 11:00 pm sharp in Jersey City, New Jersey, the lights went out and stayed off until last night at 7:43pm.  That’s three days without power or heat.  Hurricane Sandy was a massively nasty beast, and we’re just now starting the recovery process.  We are hungry and scavenging for food.  Supermarkets are closed.  Few places have power.

How I Diagnosed and Treated My Own Lyme Disease

It was the summer of 1996, and I was an intern at Rhone Poulenc, a chemical company in Cranbury, New Jersey. The weather was nice enough that I was regularly wearing short sleeved polo shirts. I was also living in Princeton, New Jersey, in a home that had a lovely backyard that was often visited by deer, no matter what my mother did to try to repel them.  At one point my mother cut my hair in the back yard because she had read somewhere that it was a good deer repellent.

A young boy sits in the corner of a schoolroom, a coat on his lap. He looks under it intently. He looks periodically toward the door and sighs contently when he sees it remains shut.
