Panopticonic Defines Salon Magazine

We know “Panopticonic” is not really a word.  “Panopticonic” is really a “word” I invented for my Boles Network Blog by the same name.  When I started the Panopticonic blog, “Panopticonic” appeared nowhere on the internet and that word failed to return any results in a Google search.  I do so love it so, though, when I get a Google Alert in my Inbox showing me that — “Panopticonic” — is being colloquially employed as a “real world” in a real publication like Salon Magazine.

Tom Jones International Steals from Boles Blues

It sickens me when someone steals our content and blatantly copies and pastes our writing — in total — on their website without our permission.  However, I do love the hunt of catching that red-handed thievery, and today, I introduce you to “Tom Jones International” and that site’s theft of our fresh content.

Canceling a Skype Subscription via PayPal is Impossible

I’ve had a Skype account since the service started.  I’ve never used Skype to make a single personal or business phone call — even though I always thought one day, any day, I would start Skype-ing like a madman.

New York City Stops the Sugar Train

Janna snapped this image on the “R Train” to Queens the other day.  New York City is big on “Banning the Sugar” bandwagon — and that’s a good thing — because sugar is killing us.

Editorial Paranoia: I Know a Penis When I Read One

The role of the editor is an important one.  A good editor is more facilitator than censor.  When I am editing the precious work of other writers, I always try to cling to their clarity instead of embossing my prejudices and belief systems into the work.  Editors must honor the author’s original intention while also respecting the sense of a universal perception that what has been written can easily be read and understood.

For The Record… Part 1

I recently quit the correcting game and stopped correcting people out loud when they made mistakes. SuperGenius David Boles suggested that I should write down the errors and blog about them since stoppering them internally would do me no good. Without further ado, please enjoy the following corrections — For The Record…

The Edification of Xenophobe Michael Kay

The New York Yankees are the most successful franchise in the history of sport — and they deserve to have a non-xenophobe as their main television play-by-play announcer and as the host of CenterStage on YES.

Pre-Prison Tat Surgery, Implanted Horns and Wigs

Daniel Cowart — a white supremacist convicted in Federal court for planning the assassination of Barack Obama — now seems to want his swastika and iron cross tattoos “surgically altered” before entering the prison system.

Defending WordPress.com Reblogging

For a over month, some in the WordPress.com community have been raging on the new Reblog feature of the free hosting website. As a matter of full disclosure, all 14 blogs in the Boles Blogs Network are hosted right here on WordPress.com and, frankly, we don’t understand all the fuss over the new Reblogging feature.

The Springpad for iPhone Review

I have been advised by many people in my life that the best way to keep myself focused and organized on a day-to-day, week to week and greater basis is to keep a to-do list. When I was younger I had a paper planner that had a special section meant for to-do lists. Unfortunately, I failed one of the basic tenets of to-do lists which is that a to-do list is not much use if you don’t check it a few times a day — otherwise, how will you make sure you are doing what you need to do?
