What will happen to the United States — One Nation Under God — if we ever elected an atheist president — or would we be rendered asunder before that could ever happen? Is it possible for an atheist to win the highest office in the land where prayer and freedom of religion reign?
I’m always amazed during the Christmas holiday season when crime and thuggery capture the headlines. Last year the “hot thing” for the criminal element in society to do to celebrate Baby Jesus was to hunt down giant, inflatable, fabric Snowmen, Santa Clauses and Angels and slash them with knives to deflate their delight.
Yesterday, GOP candidate for president Mitt Romney — some call him the Frankenstein “Herman Munster” cartoon candidate, and I will let you decide in the images below if they are monster twins or not — made it clear if you do not have a religion, if you do not covet a faith, there is no place for you in his Mormon America.

As an avowed atheist — I prefer to worship art and nature — it may seem strange that I have a long list of religious friends. Of my many Mormon friends, I have discovered there are two topics that, when mentioned, will cause them to give you the stink eye and turn away from the conversation. If you press the matter, they will refer you to the LDS website for official commentary.
The first verboten topic is colloquially known as “The Mark of Cain” and it is an interesting and undeniable stain on the Mormon church where Blacks — men of African descent — were denied the priesthood because of their “mark”… their skin color.
