The Burning Hand

We all know a match burns twice.

Few realize hot water burns forever.

Boiled water in a cup spilled once on your wrist burns you twice on your hand then thrice on your leg — and on and on in evaporating, fiery, droplets — as you react and flinch until there’s nothing left of you to burn.

On July 1, 2005 Janna and I finished writing and creating images for illustration in our Hand Jive book published by Barnes & Noble in New York. The book has been in production for the last year and is now ready to be sent to the printer this week for publication and distribution and sale!

My Death

Even now,
At the moment of my death,
I put my hand in yours,
As I have done for years,
And wait, as always,
For your strength to bolster mine.
I can hear Emily’s fly
Buzzing in my head.
It seems incongruous here
In the sterile whiteness of this room.
How odd that nothing seems to matter now.
