A Doctor By Any Other Name

What’s in a name?  If person says they are a “doctor” does that mean they actually have a medical degree or a just a PhD?  Context can’t always argue the right decision, and sometimes you have to actually ask, “Are you a ‘doctor’ doctor or just a ‘doctor of philosophy?'”

A Stumbling Patch in Jersey City

On my daily walk along the streets of Jersey City, I see happiness, I hear laughter — and sometimes — I am a witness to death.  This week, the weather here has been exceptionally punishingly hot, and when I stepped out into 99 degrees of a steaming, urban, core, I wanted to get my walk over quickly and efficiently.

Are Nurse Practitioners and Minute Clinics Good Medicine?

The New York Times reports today 43.6 million people in the United States — more than 14 percent of our population — do not have health insurance. Minute Clinic is a for-profit medical office staffed by nurse practitioners and they are located in malls and at places like Wal-Mart and pharmacies like CVS. There are some entities — mainly the American Medical Association — that thinks healthcare options like Minute Clinic are dangerous to your health.
