I just downloaded “The Sirens” from iTunes and Chris Potter filled my mind with grand spans of time and travel spilling out of my speakers and into my apartment in an all-new adaptation of the famous Homer classic.

Bryan Ferry has always been a magical, musical, mind — and the evidence of that genius can today be found in his new “The Jazz Age” album packed with his current hits, re-performed as 1920’s Jazz standards. Yes, the idea is confounding — making new music sound old in practice and performance — but, in the ear, everything is ultimately pleasing in the effort and effect.
For a long period of my life, including my early teens, I was not much interested in music of any form other than the classical music that my grandmother enjoyed. It was not until sometime early in high school that I discovered a copy of Led Zeppelin IV among some cassette tapes that my father had purchased at a garage sale — this was 1991, after all, and you found a lot more cassettes at garage sales than almost anything else musically speaking. It was one of the most powerful musical moments of my life and I am pretty sure that it changed my life for the better as I might not have nearly the musical taste I have now if I had not discovered the tape.
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, I realized access to our money was pretty important. Our local bank branch was down, and without power, for over 10 days. Sure, there were other branches to visit and online banking to exploit — but when it came down to it — as Mark Twain sort of said, “If you’re going to put all your eggs in one basket, you better have a pretty good basket!” — I knew I had to build a better basket.

Up All Night is an NBC comedy that is one of the many shows that I regularly follow on Thursday night. My wife Elizabeth and I started watching it from the beginning last year because we wanted to see to what extent the show captured reality well or was just another television show whose relevance to the real world was minimal at best.
Although the HBO television show True Blood premiered in September of 2008, my wife and I didn’t start watching it until shortly before the summer of 2010, when she was pregnant with Chaim Yosef and we had an awesome roommate named Chad. Chad convinced me to read the books on which the show is based and so I did. I noticed that there were some differences between the books and the show, some of which I will explain now so if you are looking to avoid any show or book spoilers you should probably skip this article.

At first there was a lot of hesitation in our son Chaim Yosef‘s movement when standing. He would hold onto the couch and slowly make his way over from one part to another. When he reached the end of the couch, however, he sat down and proceeded to crawl away. It went on this way for a long time until one day he apparently got sick of just toddling along and just started walking as though he had been walking for months with almost no stumbles or spills along the way. When I told my coworkers about this, the two that had children well past the age both asked me the same thing — had I purchased Stride Rite shoes for him? Specifically, the ones meant for toddlers who were just starting to walk. I answered that I had not and they insisted that I immediately buy him a pair.
My wife took young Chaim Yosef to the Stride Rite shoe store at the mall not too far from our home and when I got home from the office that evening proudly showed me her findings — R2D2 shoes. We are both big fans of the original Star Wars trilogy and of course adore little R2D2. The shoes close by Velcro and have the design of the body of R2D2 where it straps shut, with the head being the part that straps the shoe shut.
Goodbye Dropbox! I’ve hated you ever since I ceased my yearly paid subscription and you kept putting “canceled account” everywhere. I didn’t like that threat then, and I don’t like it now. I’m not “canceled” until my actual subscription expires. I don’t like giving my money over to a threat, and so I’ve been anticipating the advent of Google Drive for a long while now. Yesterday, Google Drive arrived, and I have been in Cloud Storage Glory ever since!

Last week, I signed up for Microsoft Office 365 and, even though I’m on a Mac, I thought the online email and team and website services would be a good and solid backup for the life I have heretofore entirely and exclusively run on Google Apps.
I was right and I was wrong to try Office 365. This is the story of how it all played out.
The average parent likes to have a good idea, while their baby is sleeping in another room, that their child is sleeping soundly. In years past parents had to rely on techniques such as putting their ear to the door or even fully entering and having a look to see how things are going. In the case of my beautiful Chaim Yosef we sleep in the same room as him and so we are well aware of how he is sleeping as he lets us know quite quickly if he is not sleeping.
