Is anything nicer than the smell of fresh rolls baking in the oven? |
Servings: |
Ingredients: |
Try using half white flour
and half whole wheat flour! |
6 cups flour
1 T salt
2 packages dry yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water
2 1/2 cups milk
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar |
Directions: |
- Mix everything together in a pan EXCEPT yeast and flour. Then put it on the stove and scald it. Do not boil.
|
- Cool. Then add yeast and flour to make a soft dough. Grease a large bowl and place dough in it. Let the dough rise until doubled in bulk. Punch it down, then let it rise again.
|
- Knead several times, then roll out to about 1 inch thick onto a floured surface. Cut rolls into the shapes you like (square is nice) and put each piece on a greased baking pan.
|
- Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Brush lightly with melted butter and serve immediately.
