Okay, things seem to be working pretty well with the database update and its new special caching properties. The database melted down last night at 11:11pm my time but that problem has yet to return. We’ll keep an eye on it during the day. Please continue to help stress the database for hard testing by recalling old posts for your total and complete enjoyment.
As we step into the tomorrow of this blog, I would like some feedback on what you’ve been reading here and how you wish to read it — or even write it — in the future. If you have a moment, please answer the following questions:
1. Are you interested in writing posts for discussion? If yes, how often would you like to write a post and what sort of topics would you hope to address? I can even assign you a topic if you would like to write but you are uncertain of a good topic for exploration.
2. What are your favorite and least favorite posts to read here? You don’t have to name actual post titles if you don’t want to but what are the bigger topics at play that continue to lead you here or shy you away?
3. Are there any features or Plugins on this blog you would add or delete if you were the running the joint?
4. Do you have any other comments or suggestions to make this gig better?

  1. I’m here and registered. Too bad about your new database server melting last night. That must be a crack in the ribs.
    I might post and article or two about school and minorities. I would publish maybe once a month or a couple of weeks or so but you know my schedule is strange but I’ll do what I can when I can.
    Best posts are those that deal with urban issues like schooling and the economy. Least favorite are the modern poppy issues like CSI and dance shows but I understand they are popular and bring in a different sort of reader.
    Keep up the good work. Make sure new authors will fit into the work done here. I don’t know about Plugins but everything here seems faster and clean.

    I do like the idea of a more ongoing publication schedule with new posts from folks all around the world talking about human topics and the urban core and matters of blood and bone.

    Content would need to be exclusive to here because — as I will explain more (probably tomorrow) — copied/identical content lowers search engine rank indexing for both places the identical content is found.

  16. I am registered and I appreciate the invite. Registration should keep things clean!
    I don’t think I’m a good enough writer to submit articles but I do like the comments and I try to add what I can.
    Topics are fine. There’s always something for everyone. Too narrow and you might have a really slim readership. Locking up lots of topics is a way to enhance the blog experience.
    Keeping the quality of writing high in posts and in comments is super important

  24. I’m finishing up a couple of books right now but authoring a post would be a fine thing to have in my bin.
    As for as changes. Keep doing what you’re doing. Don’t mess with Texas. Don’t fiddle with success. I know it’s hard to keep that up but keep it up anyway. Having more authors will help.

  28. I would love to be part of some kind of writing collaboration. How often I could write would depend on how well people enjoyed what was written, after all, it would be pointless in my writing anything if it was in a style in keeping with this blog and of interest to those who frequent this blog.
    I like topics on personal issues that bring out stories from the individuals who post here, the sharing of personal experiences not simply personal thoughts and ideas. Things that I don’t like are issues regarding the war, due to the ignorance surrounding much of the issues, and the childish “head in the sad” attitude to others opinions. I guess this would be what a normal political debate is like though. New Zealand isn’t much for the discussion of political issues as a general topic.
    If you’re going to have others authoring posts then you may want to consider some kind of bio page for them.

    The blog looks great! I took one of your ideas from the blog and limited my comments to people who register to keep spam and malicious comments from my blog.
    I might be persuaded to write a post or two. In some ways, I do better if I’m given an assignment to get me thinking about an issue. The assignment doesn’t have to be detailed — just something to get me thinking about a certain topic.
    I’m looking forward to see what others post. I like almost all of the posts, but I find myself more interested in the social commentaries and life stories. Stories are always a plus — I always learn something from reading about others experiences and struggles in various situations. People are pretty much the same and stories always remind us of our common humanity.
    The pop culture posts are always fun and necessary. Our world is filled with so many serious issues, that it is important to take a break and enjoy ourselves. It’s hard work to remain serious all of the time.

  43. Ok, I am a bit late (as usual……!!!) to register – but finally I am here!
    David, I love this blog, not only your posts but the comments by others too. Its in my ‘’to read’’ list for everyday, there is no such post that I don’t read or I can mark as good or bad – its about more interesting or less interesting – that too according to my own point of view.
    I love to share my point of view here, I do post my comments and I will love to write to! (Who wants to miss the chance to make all your life miserable??? :D) I don’t consider myself a good writer but is all about sharing – may be my experience?
    I would love to have some suggestion/ guidance from you David, about the topics…..till then let me think!
