The Led Zeppelin Celebration Day Review

For a long period of my life, including my early teens, I was not much interested in music of any form other than the classical music that my grandmother enjoyed. It was not until sometime early in high school that I discovered a copy of Led Zeppelin IV among some cassette tapes that my father had purchased at a garage sale — this was 1991, after all, and you found a lot more cassettes at garage sales than almost anything else musically speaking. It was one of the most powerful musical moments of my life and I am pretty sure that it changed my life for the better as I might not have nearly the musical taste I have now if I had not discovered the tape.

The Need for Recess

When I was young my mother told me that as children, our minds were like sponges and that we could absorb much knowledge that our teachers gave over to us. An important thing that I would like to add to that, however, is that the transfer of information from teacher to student cannot be the only thing that happens from the time the student arrives in school until they go home for the day. Recess, it turns out, is an extremely important part of the children’s day.

A Gym Made For the Obese

Obesity is a frightening and dangerous — even deadly trend that has only gotten worse in the last thirty years. Yet far too often people who are obese go to seek help and are brushed off by being told that all they need to do is go to the gym and eat less.

Being Fined for Poor Hiking Preparation

Being ill prepared usually brings about it ill consequence, depending on what is being done — sometimes disastrous, even. There are not too many examples I have seen of people being fined by the police for being poorly prepared for something, however — until I came across an example of exactly this. A gentleman in Victoria made plans to go on a three day hike and only took the most paltry of provisions — potatoes and naan, to be exact.

Abuse of a Two Finger Test

When someone breaks into your home and steals from you, you have much evidence that a crime was committed — the broken door, the mess made by the criminal would make it evident. When it comes to the extremely vile crime of rape, however, it is considerably more difficult to prove that anything happened and it often comes down to the word of the victim against the person or people being accused of the crime. What seems even worse than this, however, is when the victim is forced to prove that the crime took place through humiliating tests — such as the so called ‘two-finger’ test that currently is employed in India for many women who have undergone the worst sort of abuse.

The Meaning of a Confederate Flag Earpiece in 2012

When you see the Confederate flag, what comes to your mind? The first thing I think of is the television program The Dukes of Hazzard, where in the main characters drove a car that had the flag boldly painted on it. The second thing I think of is a rather unfortunate period of history in the United States during which the country was divided and people fought over whether it was acceptable to own a human being as chattel, among other issues. The southern part of the United States was dubbed the Confederate States of America, or the Confederacy, which used the Confederate flag. The states that were part of the Confederacy had seceded from the United States.

Why Does NBC Hate Community?

NBC has really changed a lot in the last twenty years. When Seinfeld came out it had relatively low ratings and didn’t really attract a meaningful audience for a few years, after which time it became one of the most popular shows in NBC’s history. If a show like Seinfeld would have started in the last couple of years it would have been cancelled by now due to its initial low ratings.
