Debate after debate, advertisement after advertisement, confession after sordid confession, I have to really ask myself right now — does the Republican Party have any actual interest in winning the Presidential election next year? The answer seems to be no, and I submit the following reasons in the form of candidates past and present, whether actual candidates or just perceived by people (and the media) to be likely candidates.

There I was last week, all fresh and pressed and ready to teach my ASL course at CUNY when I stepped onto the 33rd Street PATH train at Journal Square and found a red, nylon, lunch bag — with a bottle of water hanging onto it from a mesh pouch on the outside — hiding under the train seat.
I immediately had a flashback to my childhood and wanting to help someone — and not to the unassailable advertising posted all over the PATH stations and television warning us that if you see an unattended bag, you need to immediately report it to the PATH authorities. Since I had entered the first car, the engineer exited her locked control booth for a shift change, and I told her I found a bag on the floor.
She ignored me and walked off the train.

Education is invaluable, and when opportunities for expansion and cohesion are negated, everyone suffers. I am reminded of such a situation from many years ago in elementary school that I have now dubbed — “Amway or My Way” — and I will share that recollection with you now.
It costs a lot of money to house prisoners in cells when the idea is no longer reformation, but rather separation and dissonant punishment:
One year at Princeton University: $37,000. One year at a New Jersey state prison: $44,000.
Prison and college “are the two most divergent paths one can take in life,” Joseph Staten, an info-graphic researcher with Public Administration, says. Whereas one is a positive experience that increases lifetime earning potential, the other is a near dead end, which is why Staten found it striking that the lion’s share of government funding goes toward incarceration.
