Can Cheaters Defend Marriage?

I recently read a tremendous account of a man who took his son, a big fan of the honorable Mahatma Gandhi, to perhaps receive some advice on how to get his son to quit his addiction to sweets. Gandhi asked the man to come back with his son two weeks later. The man said that it would be cost prohibitive and wondered why Gandhi could not help him at that time. Gandhi explained that he would just have to come back two weeks later.

Love by the Calendar: Grift in the Holidays Scam

Janna and I aren’t big on formal gift giving.  We have a saying that is frequently expressed in our marriage: “Every day is your birthday.”  That doesn’t mean we’re wild spenders — or that giving a “gift” to each other requires spending money — but it does change our perspective on the “Mandatory Holidays” that drive greeting card sales and generate increased prices for dining out while lowering prices on consumer goods like clothing.

Former Presidents Should Not Criticize the Current President

For eight years George W. Bush was the president of our fair nation and led in a way that I would not exactly describe as bipartisan — he reached out to and embraced the right, the far right, and the so far right that it almost wraps around and touches the other side. One would think that as a retired former President that he would continue to do so — speak out on behalf of the GOP, speak out against the pinko communist plots hatched up in the Soros powered hive mind that infests the current White House, and kissing every baby boy named after the late Ronald Reagan.

The Muslim Women Conundrum: You Must Guarantee No Man Will Touch Us

One semester, I was teaching a Dramatic Literature course at a major public university on the East Coast, when I was approached by four women after the first session.

The four walked up to me and one of them told me they were Muslim and that I had to guarantee them no man would touch them during class.

I was stopped for a moment by their request.  When I looked up from my desk, I saw they were all dressed in traditional Eastern clothing and their heads were covered and they were deadly serious.

“We thought this was a literature class,” one of them said.

“It is,” I replied.

Obama for the Public Good

I know three things about President Obama; he is a good man, he’s an honest man, and he is truly dedicated to “The Public Good.”  That said, he has a curious way to trying to provide for The Public Good by negotiating with liars, bending backward for his enemies, and trying allay the fears of those who have vested their public lives to thwarting him at every turn.  The man is surrounded, and instead of fighting, he is surrendering.

Doggy Doo and Puppy Pee On Your Doorstep

Is there anything worse than walking along a public city sidewalk and stepping in doggy doo or slipping on puppy pee?  Why are so many dog owners irresponsible in taking care of their pets?

A Letter to Well Meaning Virus Announcement Forwarders

Dear Well Meaning Forwarders of Virus Alert E-mails,

First of all, let me thank you for your consideration. You got an e-mail about the existence of a virus. It could be a virus that comes in the form of a greeting card or the form of a silly photo of our president.
