Yesterday, the first President of Czechoslovakia, Vaclav Havel, died. He was 75. Havel was also first, a Playwright, and that distinction is important and intimate as he led and saved a new nation.

Sometimes, there is no place lower to go than the depths of a tasteless, public, aesthetic parading itself on the paving stones of public discourse as an ingenious iteration of inspiration — when the idea is really nothing more than visual vomit. Today, I introduce you do the “Cloud Towers” — where Art-Meets-9/11-Terrorism-In-The-Sky in Seoul, South Korea:
We learn through our minds, and we take warnings through our senses. When you want to give quick, concise, information to the human eye with a cultured aesthetic, you use bright colors, and a relational retinal design to drive context that creates meaning. In the image below, you see the new food label packaging the FDA is proposing for all processed American foods. You are immediately confused looking at the information. Are those too many calories or just the right amount for what you’re about to put in your mouth? You have to calculate your own “DV” maximum percentage for “Sat Fat” and “Sodium.” You’re left to wonder what the “DV” for 14g of “Sugars” really means in the big picture.

I have several Apple MacBook computers and a single Cinema Display; but one can never have too many keyboards. As you can see below, I’ve gone wacky for the gorgeous, new, chicklet-style keyboards from Apple. On the left is the wired “laptop” keyboard; next to it is the wired “full” keyboard with numeric keys; beneath that is the Bluetooth keyboard. All of these keyboards allow you to control the brightness of the screen and manage the starting and stopping of music or movies.
There are actually two “Mozart Syndromes.” This first one is rather precious and new and deals with washing the sounds of Mozart’s melodies over the ears of babies and young children to help them think more clearly. The second “Mozart Syndrome” is more ancient, more insidious and much more dangerous by many magnitudes.
