The New Barack is Blue
Barack Obama turned the world Blue. Red Republicans claim there is no Obama mandate, but we who won the world — know the United States is forever changed — but how can we semiotically prove the provenance of the Blue Mandate?

What Was Won
Barack Obama is the President-Elect of the United States. In 11 weeks he will be sworn in as the 44th President of these United States. In the image below, an artist has reversed the biological history of the candidates to reflect Obama as a wholly White Man — with John Edwards’ infamous Nancy-boy haircut — and John McCain as a Black Man. If the image had truth instead of imagination — and the only thing changed in both men was the color of their skin — would John McCain have even been the Republican nominee?

An American Election
If you live in the United States, and if you are registered to vote — we urge you to stand in line all day if you have to, and cast a vote for Barack Obama — to win back what was lost.

What Will Be Won
Today is Election Day in America and — as we awaken from our long, national, somnambulism — we must remember the darkness that brought a heavy depression to our murmuring hearts and a blighted worldview to our unblinking eyes.

Assassinating the Quadroon Messiah
The “Calaca Obama” cartoon seen below is frightening on several levels. First, “calaca” is a colloquial term for “skeleton” in Spanish. Calacas — human skulls representing joyous dead figures in “Day of the Dead” celebrations — are supposed to suggest that even the dead deserve a celebration of their lives. Next, we need to understand in Guatamala, “calaca” means death and there is no mistaking graves for happiness in that cultural context. Finally, for those who have no idea what a “calaca” is — we all recognize a skull is not a living soul and so we must wonder what insidious semiotic is being spent on us in the name of Barack Obama. Halloween is tomorrow in the USA, but do we really want to be making disconnected, editorial cartoon, attributions of death against Barack Obama any time during the year?

Does Assassination Art Hate or Heal?
Yesterday, in my WordPunk article — Built for Beautiful Failing — I wondered if Art hates or heals. Yesterday, in the New York Times, I received a reply to my query in a story concerning an Art display in a vacant Midtown store: “The Assassination of Hillary Clinton/The Assassination of Barack Obama.”
