I was finally able to get into Google+ this morning. I think my invitations to the service from my friends and associates were getting caught in my Gmail trash from what I can tell in my postmortem investigation. Today, I just tried to login to the service, and I was finally met with this Join screen:

I was surprised to read the news that the University of Nebraska are moving their email system from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Office 365 in the cloud. When I saw Microsoft paid $250,000.00USD to get Nebraska to choose Office 365 instead of Google Apps for Education, it all became clear. Nebraska took the money and followed the bribe.
Did you know your Facebook privacy has been leaking? As that social network expands to flow like a never-ending molasses across the grimacing façade of the nameless masses — suffocating us in pokes and Mafia War requests — we need to pause a moment and step back to wonder just what’s happening to us beyond the velvet curtain.
Growing up, the phrase “Leave it on the machine” meant one thing and one thing only: Call me on a hardline telephone and leave a specific voice message on the answering machine connected to the hardline telephone in my house. I’m not sure when that turn of phrase fell out of favor — does anyone say, “Leave it on voice mail” today?
I use Google search a lot to help me sort through my day. I find Google especially helpful when I’m looking to link an article published in one of 14 blogs in the Boles Blogs Network. I can usually remember a few keywords from a previously published article I want to find, but I can’t always recall the blog in which I published the article. Google can usually suss that out for me without much interactive prodding. Yesterday, when I was invoking The Google, I did a search for “david w boles books” and I was surprised there were 141,000 available search results and also that there was an Advertisement at the top of the returns for “Books By David W. Boles” with my hotlinked name.

In my October 19, 2010 article — Malcolm Gladwell Crushes the Social Network Revolution — I argued this:
I’ve always been fascinated by the people on Twitter who have 25,000 followers and they’re following 25,000 people. We all know nobody is reading Tweets from 25,000 people a day and, in reverse, nobody is reading what you broadcast to 25,000 people. So the point becomes: So What? Everybody’s Tweeting, Nobody’s reading. That’s the definition of a modern, circular, death with no end except to begin again. We all assume everyone is reading every tidbit we share, but they aren’t — and yet they assume the same about us, and that we cannot live without their every savory update morsel, but we can; and so the fakery and the terribleness of Social Networking is known and felt but never confessed. We all just keep our heads down and keep clicking and pretending we are living memeingful lives while we search for a human reality that never was and never can be.
Malcolm Gladwell was right then, as he is now. The Revolution in Egypt will be won with bloody, civilian, hands on tanks and not pristine fingers pecking on cellphones.
