Americans need to learn we don’t get something for nothing — but that blunt lesson is lost on many of us who believe the American Dream is not home ownership, but rather getting money for not working. Unfortunately, there are other people in the world that exploit on that hoary truth for their own grifting schemes.
Is the university system broken?
Do we care more about making money than mending minds?
We believe the United States doesn’t imprison people for failing to pay their bills — and that’s generally true — unless, that is, you happen to live in Florida and you owe the state court system money.
Friends are crumbling with ruined savings and lost pensions. Strangers are in distress. The world is bleeding money. A good friend of mine, a hardworking, responsible widow in her late Sixties, told me yesterday that she’s ruined. All her money retirement money was lost in the slow decline of the financial markets. She spread out her risk, but she still got crushed. She has some savings left, but she cannot afford to live the quiet, easy, life she wanted before she dies.
I don’t understand tattoos. I really do not understand designer tattoos. What are we trying to remember?
Blame it on the Jews! Shakespeare warned us about the Jewish moneylender Shylock in — The Merchant of Venice — who wanted a pound of flesh as security for a loan to his anti-semitic tormentors. The Jews run Hollywood! Hollywood is not Jewish enough! The Jews own the banks! The Jews own Bill Clinton! New York Jews are ruined by success! The Jews rule America! In today’s New York Times — published in Hymietown Central — there is an article eviscerating Bernie Maddoff’s Ponzi scheme of ripping off what comes across in print like a cabal of “money-hungry Jews.”
I am surprised by the false indignation and phony outrage by our political leaders over Illinois Governor Blagojevich’s horsetrading for Obama’s open Senate seat.
Do Disney movies do children more harm than good?
We believe in branding. Your logo, your namespace, and your textual perception is everything online, and it is the only thing that matters when you are a popular company propagating your brand. We were horrified to learn Pepsi recently changed their semiotic logo and bottle in favor of a strange, smiling, grinning, yawning set of variations on the Obama-like red-white-and-blue theme.
