In 2006, two television shows came out that were about late night comedy sketch shows. One of them was more serious than the other, and got canceled after being on for a year — that was Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. The other turned out to be the very hilarious 30 Rock. I still watch 30 Rock and believe that if you like comedic television programming that doesn’t mind laughing at itself, you should do yourself a favor and watch it as well.

One thing I really enjoy about the show is that even though it is about a sketch show, much of the humor comes from the time the characters spend not necessarily actively creating or participating in the sketch show. In this clip, Tina Fey’s character lectures a co-worker about the importance of dressing appropriately to work.

There is plenty of humor that revolves around you having some knowledge about what it means to live in New York but I think it still translates well even to people who have never been to a big city.

30 Rock is a show that runs on NBC — which used to be owned by General Electric — Comcast is now the owner of all things NBC. There have been countless jokes that have gone on the show relating to the former GE ownership.

“It adds to the humanity of the company, ” GE CEO Jeff Immelt told Fast Company at a GE party at, yes, 30 Rockefeller Center. ” 30 Rock is a way for us to poke fun at big corporate culture and not be defensive about it, ” agrees Steve Fludder, the new chief of Ecomagination. “I just showed a clip yesterday at a GE meeting, “ [former] NBC head Jeff Zucker says.

For me, when I see the shows Survivor and Desperate Housewives being subtly mocked by being merged into fake reality show MILF Island, I can’t help but think that it’s good to have a show that will put a spotlight on the absurdities of America in the 21st century.

If you are looking for a nice show to round out your Thursday night schedule, consider 30 Rock. I have been watching it since the beginning and am glad that I have stuck with it.
