Here are some tips and tricks on making the best tasting doughnuts possible!
Fat: What to Use and How to Use It
Vegetable fats or bland vegetable oils are the best because they heat quickly, are almost odorless and do not burn as readily as butter or margarine. Put enough fat or oil in a pan that will be about 3-4 inches lower than the rim of the pan or skillet or deep-fryer. Then heat to the correct temperature before adding doughnuts. Use caution when adding doughnuts in that you don’t lower the temperature – that is, add them slowly and not too many at a time. If the oil temperature is too low, doughnuts will absorb the oil. If the temperature is too high, the doughnuts will brown too fast and may not be thoroughly cooked in the centers.

Over the centuries, colors have been used for signifying meanings in heraldry, given to the months of the year and the seasons, religious symbolism, and for everything from weddings to babies. Florists are quick to tell us red roses mean love. We use color to describe emotions. And how about “once in a blue moon everything goes all right” or “it’s a red-letter day.”

If you smoke, quit. If you don’t smoke, don’t start.
With that said, let’s take a look at some proven facts and some theories. Some you may not agree with, but don’t bother to send email to debate the issues as you won’t receive any responses.
On a personal note, I’ve been addicted to nicotine for 35 years. I make no apologies for that addiction, for I enjoy smoking.

A favorite cliche, “everything we derive any pleasure from these days is either illegal, immoral, or fattening,” needs an addition of “deadly.” Yes, DEADLY! The latest in a long list of unsafe practices is manicures. The last time I had my nails professionally manicured was a startling experience and the more I thought about it, the more I realized the dangers lurking on the manicurist’s table.

There’s a sign in my computer room that says: “WARNING: This house protected by Dust Bunnies.” The sign has been Xeroxed for friends and relatives who, like me, wish to explain the existence of the strange balls in their own households . Our dust bunnies are given names; they have favorite locations, and they wear identifying collars. The prolific little “creatures” are so brave these days that we have attached jingle bells to the larger ones to prevent accidental death by vacuuming. They’re in no danger whatsoever from me or my husband, but my mother endangers their survival on an average of twice a week.
