Dunlop makes a lot of great guitar gear and in this Boles Blues blog, we’ve previously reviewed the Dunlop Delrin picks and the Dunlop Ultex picks. I don’t use picks much anymore now that I’ve moved on to chord melody and Jazz, but for those days when I need that “pick sound” I really like the Dunlop Jazz Tone 204 and 205 picks a friend sent me.

I have been exclusively playing Fingerstyle guitar for about about a month, and while I like the sound I create on my guitar strings, I don’t like the inconsistency of my flesh-without-fingernails, and I don’t like the fact that I have a really hard time playing my three pickup Custom Les Paul — there’s a reason most Les Pauls only have two pickups — you need the extra room to fingerpick! I also don’t like it when I fingerpick without fingernails how the bass notes sound uniquely muted while the treble strings are cloyingly harsh. When I discovered my YouTube hero Gregor Hilden was using Dunlop Delrin 2.0 guitar picks, I decided I had to give them a try, too.
If you play the electric guitar, you likely have a stompbox or two — a “stompbox” is an electronic device that sits between your guitar and your amp to change the sound of your guitar in dramatic and subtle ways — and I have a whole drawerful of stompboxes that I bought, tried, and put away in my drawer.
Finding the right electric guitar pick can quickly become an infatuation. I’m lucky that I found the Dunlop Ultex pick straight away and I haven’t looked back or yearned for something better.
