Why We Do Not Fear Sarah Palin

If you say anything negative about Sarah Palin — or her fruitless brood on the internets — there are the “Sarah Defenders” who will clamber out of their rat holes to heel by her side and give it to you in email while insulting you with rabid commentary.  We have the “Obama Effect” and we have the “Palin Frenzy” and I will choose effectiveness over rapture every time.

Gauging the Effect of the Sanity and Fear Rallies

The weekend before the 2010 Midterm elections, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert held a massive rally in Washington D.C., the purpose of which was perhaps to be a contrast the so-called “Rally to Restore Honor,” held by Fox News Commentator/Gold Shiller Extraordinaire Glenn Beck. There was considerable more interest by the media in the Stewart/Colbert rally than there was in the Beck rally.

For the last two years I have been struggling to get the Board of Elections in the City of New York to understand two simple concepts : My name and where I live. I have thus far been unsuccessful in doing both at the same time. I moved back to New York from Seattle in August of 2008 — in Seattle, my name was well spelled and my address was accurate.

In the wash of the Barack Obama win, there are strange thunderings going on below the surface level of local, human, interaction.  Many of our area neighbors, and casual acquaintances, cannot believe we — “The White Folk” — voted for Obama, and I cannot help but wonder why.
