Mugshots at the Doctor’s Office and Other Biometric Poisonings

The NSA scandal has me thinking a lot about how other PRISM identifying marks of us — on the biometric side — are, in fact, also poisoning our privacy.  Here’s a comment I made in a recent article thread concerning the loss of our biologic privacy:

Yes, we’re all stuck! The fact that they now want our weight is a new metric. Our height rarely changes, so once they have that number they have us in adulthood — but weight can fluctuate like crazy for some people — so having our weight “re-evaluated” and remarked down with every medical visit is an important identification portrait for them. All of our doctors now scan our insurance card and also take a photo of us — to prevent medical fraud — uhm…. riiiiight… so our MDs now have our mug shots, height, weight… quite a lovely new arm of the NSA, eh? Some doctors even want palm scans!

The Harsh Realities of the Circle of Life

In the dim and distant past when I first had a job, I used to get a lift to work with a friend.  In return I would look after their family animals while they were away on holiday.  This meant feeding and mucking out three or four rabbits and four guinea pigs which lived in a huge wooden hutch in the garden. He would ruefully remark to me at times that he wished the animals he had bought to teach the children about life and death would actually oblige. They must have had the longest living rabbits and guinea pigs I have known.

Fast forward thirty five years and the cats of my lap in the Alentejo shed are giving me a prime example.

More Contrails into Chemtrails

On July 11, 2007, I wrote an article — Contrails into Chemtrails: Are We Being Poisoned From the Sky? — where I posited the notion that something strange was going on in the sky above us:

As we cock our heads skyward to wonder at the jets above us and the beautiful plumes of white they leave behind as godly evidence of their whirlwind trip into the heavens, there are some scientists who believe we are being slowly poisoned by those white plumes — those contrails — by chemicals that are being seeded into the sky in those beautiful, twisting, tufts of man-made trailing clouds.

Intrepid Urban Semiotic reader and commenter Alison Hermosillo took me up on my offer to get in touch:

I found your site on a “purposely made contrail” search I did a few minutes. I live in Guadalajara in Mexico. I have just recently (about a month ago) become aware of patterned lines in the sky. I don’t know much on the subject, but I do in fact believe this:

1- It is a new sky effect, this wasn’t happening before and it’s characteristics (parallel or crossed lines, during a lapse of time during the day) make me think it is NOT a natural event, but man-made.

2- Since it is man-made, and I know planes, airplane fuel and permits to fly aren’t cheap, I know that somebody MUST be spending a lot of money to do this.

To me it leaves 2 possible options: Either someone RICH is doing something really GOOD, for altruistic reasons OR someone is doing something very BAD for evil reasons. Mexico does not have the money or the smarts to be engineering these things, so why are we seeing this here?

Pringles: Tasty Treat or Salmonella Slider?

Growing up, I never really ate many potato chips and they were
rarely purchased for the home. My mother always said that they were unhealthy and led to weight problems — and had no nutritional value of their own. With Proctor & Gamble issuing a limited recall on some Pringles because of possible Salmonella poisoning, we have to ask ourselves how far we are willing to go to enjoy a tasty treat.
