The 27-Inch Apple Thunderbolt Display Review

If you do a lot of work on the web, having a large display can really help you get a lot of work done in a faster fashion.  More screen space means more multi-tasking.  More multi-tasking means you get more work done for the dollar hour than you can when restricted to a single workspace.

Even though my 24″ Apple Cinema Display died after two years — it has now been fixed by Apple under AppleCare warranty — I wasn’t completely shorn off the Apple tree.  In fact, I rather loved the new “Thunderbolt” technology that was invented to give faster communication between computers and devices.

When I decided to get a new 11-inch MacBook Air with Thunderbolt technology, I knew I had to also go for the 27-inch Thunderbolt Display to round out the new experience.

The Soothe and Glow Seahorse Review

Getting your baby to sleep can be a tricky thing. There are many techniques parents try from rocking their babies gently, nursing, to using music — my wife and I have tried them all with differing levels of success depending on the evening and Chaim Yosef’s particular mood at the time. Some evenings he is more receptive to the rocking. Others, nursing is all that it takes to do the trick. This was all changed after recent events — he more or less has been going to sleep on his own since the events that led to one of the most difficult things I ever had to do.

The Pan Am Review

As a child, I occasionally went with my parents on vacation and we would, when the price was right, use as an airline Pan Am. I distinctly remember thinking it was a shame that it went out of business in 1991 after the harsh loss of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. It therefore came as a surprise to me when ABC announced that they were making a television show about flight attendants (formerly called stewardesses) and their experiences working for Pan Am Worldwide in the early 1960’s.

Songs Telling Stories: Music of the Fiery Furnaces

It’s great when things go full circle in life. As an example, I enjoy frequenting a site called NYC Taper, a site created by a gentleman known by the same moniker, who goes to concerts and (with the permission of the artists) records their set, releasing it into the wild as it were on his site. He does not ask for money for this endeavor however he requests that if you download a high quality audio recording of a band that you try to visit the band’s site and support them by buying their albums or merchandise.

The Greplin Effect

Yesterday, we published a Greplin review in our Panopticonic blog, and the surge in traffic for that review was incredible.  We had 1,102 views for that review alone.  I call that massive influx of readers “The Greplin Effect.”  Here’s a comparison chart over time that shows you the massive Greplin bump we experienced yesterday and today:

Pat Metheny's What's It All About Review

Pat Metheny is a magnificent musician who just happened to make his fame by playing a rousing Jazz guitar.  Metheny’s long career in Jazz has been vibrant and punching.  He always takes you on a rapid, breathless, journey and then plunks you back to earth.  Metheny’s new album — What’s It All About — dropped today, and the album consists of a curious, non-Jazzy, covers of several classics.

The iMuscle for iPad Review

iMuscle is a new, $5.00USD, iPad App from NOVA and, at first glance, it seems like it would be a real winner of a Human Body in Motion workout App using an animated anatomical man as your virtual trainer but, in reality, iMuscle is nothing more than a curiosity.

The Kiss Each Other Clean Review

Music evolves over time — a musician or band will not write the same kind of music when they start playing as they will be playing a decade later, or two decades later. It’s interesting to look at bands from the past and examine their growth over time and see how they change from album to album. Many times, however, when you are living through those changes it can come as a bit of a surprise and it takes getting used to. This happened to me most recently with the new Iron & Wine album, “Kiss Each Other Clean.”

Goodbye and Good Riddance to the Office

The Office is finally over!  The last episode aired last night as Steve Carell left the building — for good, we hope — and that concludes the run of the overwrought television sitcom.

The All Eternals Deck Review

It seems like it has been a long time since the release of the last Mountain Goats album, 2009’s The Life of the World to Come. While this may not seem like much for the average band, consider that in the early 1990’s there were years in which two albums would come out. Granted these albums were recorded straight to boombox with no production — that didn’t detract from its amazing lyrics or musical quality.
