When national emergencies take over current mindsets, the first place people turn to spread information and receive information is Twitter. Unfortunately, when crises rise and Tweets spike, Twitter often goes into Fail Whale Mode.
When you write articles, it is rare you have an “Immediacy Thermometer” that shows you successes and failures. Our BolesBlogs Twitter account sends out updates for all our newly published articles across the 13-blog strong Boles Blogs Network. We use SocialToo to track people who follow us and, more importantly, people who UNfollow us. Here’s this morning’s UNfollow report from SocialToo and our article yesterday on — Owning the Devil Note — resulted in nine people dropping us:
We are not tremendous fans of Twitter — mainly because we find 140-character Tweets the lowest form of contentless publication that pretends to have prescience — but now we must bite our tongues and bind our fingers as we realize the Golden Age of the Web is over as Twitter heralds the advent of the New Dark Ages.
We are not tremendous Twitter fans — though we do use Twitter to Tweet you — and so we love the latest white paper from Pear Analytics describing how Twitter is more idle babble than active information sharing:
We know I don’t think much of Twitter, even though I Tweet Boles Blogs Network updates. I’m sort of the lonesome stepchild standing in the street yelling to everyone around me — “But the bird has no feathers!” — while the restless crowd around me Tweets about Twitter’s beautiful plumage.
Over the weekend, my Twitter rage was redeemed by Twitter itself as it finally confessed its utterly dark yearnings in an official blog post telling us they only value protecting the identity of celebrity and fame and not the everyday ordinary Twit like us.
We all know I love Comcast — except when I’m rarely hating on them — and we all know I don’t like Twitter even though I use it every day, so what happens when your first beloved betrays you and the second coming of your loathing, meet? You get a socially swampy, memeingful, mashup as ComcastBill rides to your rescue. Here’s how the Comcast Crusade began yesterday at 10:11am with this Tweet:
