Our favorite Mad Telecaster SuperGenius, Jim Campilongo, has a brand new album called “Orange” that will be released on February 16, 2010 — and, due to the magic of the internets, you can buy it right now via iTunes — that sets a broad, new, standard for experimentation in melody and intention.

I am convinced our senses can heal us. Chicken soup saves the soul. Our eyes entertain the body. Our ears bring us the vibrations of joy. In my ongoing quest to find the right guitar amplifier, I thought I’d hit nirvana with Egnater Rebel 20 — but their terrible customer support was so sour that they curdled my joy. I am happy to report today that I have found my ultimate amp in the reissue of the Fender ’65 Princeton Reverb!

One of the greatest joys of living an online life is the ability to celebrate, and defend, the goodness you find in the world against the crassness crashing around us, and today, we are leaping — nay, racing — to the defense of the new smash musical group, “Hey Monday” and their delightful lead singer, Cassadee Pope.

If you play electric guitar, you are always searching for “that sound” that will bring joy and everlasting effervescence into your life. One of the ways to get “that sound” is to play around with various amps and speakers until you find the right fit for delighting your ear while providing the necessary goodness for your soul. The Egnater Rebel-20 Half Stack was brought to my attention as a joy-worthy amp, and this is my story of chasing that divinity.

It’s always a magnificent moment when art and science come together to form a greater entity, and today I’m going to share with you the story of such magnificence in the being of my new Black Strat — the David Gilmour of Pink Floyd famous Black Strat — that I just purchased from Troy Benns at Wildwood Guitars. The beauty to be held is down below.

The Holy Grail for any guitar consumer, collector and player is to find a “Guitar Guy” who fits their need, fulfills their wants, and who pays attention to covering all the details while extending a fair price and an open hand for service. After an intensive five-month search, I have finally found my Guitar Guy — his name is Troy Benns — and he works wonders for Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, Colorado. You can see below my new, incredible, Fender Vintage Hot Rod ’57 Stratocaster that arrived yesterday from Wildwood.

If you decide to play an electric guitar, realize right now the sound you make isn’t just in the wood, strings and your fingertips. You’re going to have to buy a proper amp to bring alive that sound in your head. Finding “that sound” can quickly become an expensive and lifelong test of your yearning to create that warm, overdriven, rich and lush musicality that defines your spirit and cultures a generation.

When you write a lot of blogs on a variety of topics, there are few real surprises left in life because you’ve read and written and dreamt it all. However, after I wrote my Fender and Gibson branded clothing review, I was genuinely surprised to receive an email from Fender thanking me for my review. I paid for all the Fender and Gibson clothes in my original review and I did not contact Fender or Gibson to let them know my review was published. Fender found me. Gibson did not.

We know Fender and Gibson make outstanding guitars — but when you’re spending Big Money on buying electric axes — you also want to demonstrate your loyalty beyond the amp and in the street. You aren’t showing off, you’re merely expressing your implied, private, branding in public. This review will focus on the clothing branding of both powerhouse companies and we’ll start with Gibson.
