Evolution of the Boles Bells Brand Logo

When I decided to launch my newest online publication — David Boles Bells — I knew I wanted a logo that included a Kettlebell. Unfortunately, I am not a great digital artist, and so my first stop to find some design help was Adobe Stock. I found this logo that I really loved. I purchased a license, and then discovered I had no idea how to edit the image in Adobe Illustrator to personalize the logo to BolesBells.com. I did a little research to see if I could locate the artist who originally designed the logo I purchased to see if I could hire that artist to design a whole new logo for Boles Bells.

David Boles Bells: Ring Them Boles Bells!

As the once great Bob Dylan proclaimed, in his lovely song, “Ring Them Bells” —
Ring them bells, ye heathen
From the city that dreams
Ring them bells from the sanctuaries
’Cross the valleys and streams

— and today, I use that song title (forgiving its intrinsic English grammar problems) as one inspiration for a new website, and blog, I’ve created called: BolesBells.com! The new site is dedicated to older folk, like me, who are aged 50 or older, and who want to get into Kettlebell workouts. I settled on “David Boles Bells” as the name of the new project because I would often listen to “Ring Them Bells” while working out with my Kettlebells — it was time to “Ring Them Boles Bells!” There is a distinct connection for me between the power of that song, and the majesty of flowing in a Kettlebell workout. I also appreciate how every artist who sings “Ring Them Bells” presents a completely different take, and inspiration, on the lyric — just like we, we Kettlebellians, all have different routines, and practices, even though the core intention remains the same: To get in shape and stay there! As well, as we celebrate this new Boles Bells online entity, I am also honored to share with you the lovely “Boles Bells” logo created by the incredibly talented Andrei Gorshkov:

New Boles Logos for the New Year in 2014

Over the last 15 years or so, I have designed a lot of websites and many original logos.  The logos have evolved over the years, and so have the websites, but many of my main logos have been in use since 2005 and, sometimes, you need to make a change in order to get a fresher look and feel for your personal brand.

The problem with changing one logo in a pride of online properties is that one logo modification tends to cascade into necessary, widespread, cultural changes so everything blends and works better in an overall aesthetic eye appeal.

Here’s a photograph of me that was taken by a Rutgers theatre student of mine in 2004.  I had no idea she was taking my photograph, and when she later offered to give me the digital photograph, I was both delighted and thrilled that she captured me so succinctly unaware.  Yes, the photograph is blurry and slightly out of focus — but so was I at the time of the taking.

The studio walls are painted to look like a green and bluish sky for an in situ production.  My coat is to my left and that garish white triangle is a coat hanger.  The theatre chairs are backward and broken on the floor because the empty space was in the process of being stripped down and made into part of the Department of Education.  My face and hands are blurry because I’m taking notes in performance.

Forget Trans-Vaginal Wands, the GOP Want Your Fetus to Have a Handgun

I thought the height of White Men Invading a woman’s private parts ended with the trans-vaginal wand, but the hard Right Wing of the GOP have totally gone off the side of their flat-earth world when the likes of Congressman Steve Stockman uses the logo of the United States Congress to spew public hatred of women and the families of shooting victims like Sandy Hook Elementary.

Using a second “re-election” Twitter account that doesn’t use the U.S. Congress logo, Stockman is selling this ridiculous bumper sticker for a dollar: “If babies had had guns they wouldn’t be aborted.”

Arrested in Obama

I’m not sure what these 15 people have in common other than being arrested and mug shot in an Obama t-shirt — but it does make one wonder if there are similar mug shots of the arrested in Dubya shirts.

Them Thar Blue Hills

I spend a lot of time on the internet and lately I’ve seen the following blue avatar popping up in use many different places by separate people.  Have you seen this blue image before?  If so, do you know its semiotic and semantic meanings?

  • Time-Restricted Eating is Ineffective
For years, I have often been a fan of intermittent fasting as a weight loss method. I would often recommend eating all your daily calories before noon, and then fasting until the next morning when you woke up and started the cycle all over again.
  • Covid-19: Overfat Syndemic
By considering the big picture view of Covid-19 as a Syndemic, we see that susceptibility to disease would not occur, or would become less serious, if the vulnerabilities to infections and spreading of disease were reduced by proactive measures.

I am a big fan of wearables that give you delicate insights into the complicated status of your heart health. As we age, we become slower, and fatter, and more unsubstantial in what we are able to accomplish. If our wearables can help track us, and get us up, and moving — then, just perhaps, […]
