Sissy Biggers is the Next Food Network Star!

Last night, the Food Network revealed its next star:  Sissy Biggers! 
We thought we were wholly finished with Sissy Biggers and her annoying voice, the yipping Chihuahua personality, strange teeth, wispy hair and no-talent parading around our television as a pseudo-expert — but, no — the Food Network is bringing back our worst nightmare and giving her a cooking show that starts next week called “Kitchen Survival Guide.”

LinkedIn Creates Circles

UPDATE: 
January 26, 2009.  I no longer like LinkedIn.  I now Loathe LinkedIn.  However, I am keeping the remainder the review below intact to preserve the breadcrumb record of experience and recognition as it happened.

I believe in the power of circles.  I believe in mending broken circles.  I believe in creating new arcs that lead to closing circles.  When I was invited this week to become a member of LinkedIn, I was wary at first, because I do not like social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace because showboating and friends-gathering is more valued than finding information and tending intimate circles.
LinkedIn is unique.  LinkedIn is clean and cogent.  LinkedIn is about creating business contacts — and the whole idea behind the service is you only add people to your network that you already know.  You can check out my LinkedIn profile — and add me to your network if you know me — by touching the button below.

Movable Type Pro 4.21: Still Slow, Still Ugly

Yesterday, Pair Networks upgraded this Urban Semiotic blog — and RelationShaping.com and WordPunk.com — to the new Movable Type Pro 4.21 and yet, despite the hype from Six Apart, I am surprised to report Movable Type just as slow and ugly as it ever was. 
Should it really take an hour and 21 minutes to republish 1,400 blog articles and 30,000 comments?

Network Solutions Confesses

I realize the past couple of weeks have heavily dealt with blog entries here about technical issues that concern my web hosting move from LunarPages to Network Solutions.

Forgive me for another entry in that vein, but I need to share an update with you about the slow database interaction between this blog and Network Solution’s implementation of MySQL (pronounced “My S-Q-L” and not “My Sequel” — “Sequel” is the name of an IBM database — so we shouldn’t confuse the two even though hardcore engineers love to slang it up with the “Sequel” mispronunciation; just because it’s convenient doesn’t mean it’s correct.
